Report from Pat, August 10, 2008
There is a casino at the Flying J Truck Stop in Wells, NV, at the junction of Route 93 and I- 80. The 4 Way Casino and Cafe is part of the truck stop, which does allow overnight RV parking. The lot didn't look too busy when we were there, and there was an RV kind of off by itself, so perhaps it's not too noisy sometimes.
The 4 Way Cafe was decent - they serve large portions typical of truck stops, so we learned our lesson and ordered from the Senior menu the second time we ate there.
The casino is small and somewhat smoky. The VP paytables weren't what I'd call playable - at least not on the deuces games. (We didn't overnight there; we were in the area to do some exploring, so we stayed at an RV park - the Beverly Hills, which is 3 miles west of Wells on I-80. Their weekly rate was $70.00, so $10.00 per night for FHU's w/30 amp power. It's big-rig friendly; some sites have trees, but all sites have good southern exposure for dishes).
Things to do and see in the area: Angel Lake - a manmade lake in a beautiful glacial cirque, complete with glaciers and waterfalls. We saw some successful fishing happening there. (Don't pull a big rig up to the lake, though - it's a long steep pull). The Ruby Mountains - lots of hiking possibilities. Ghost towns such as Metropolis and Charleston.
