Report from Just Wanderin', October 31,
2009 http://blog.willywagon.net/
We stopped for a one night stay. The Casino is right on the water and a
beautiful stopping place. We attempted to follow directions from the
CasinoCamper website. However, the exit is #27 and not #23 as listed from
I-10. Thank goodness we were unhitched and used the toad to check the area
out first. Once you exit at Westlake the signs will direct you directly
into the Isle of Capri Casino RV parking lot. You'll exit left once you
arrive at the casino. You can call for reservations and with a credit card
hold, you'll be guaranteed one of the 8 electric sites. Approximate length
of each site is about 35 feet as indicated on another post. Check-in for
the $10 per night electrical sites is at the hotel check in
counter. Arrival time is slated at 3 PM with checkout at 11 AM the
following morning.
Boondocking is free. I would advise being as far back in the RV lot as
possible as employees use the lot to rush through on their way to work.
The casino was packed and Clint Black was the star attraction. This casino
offers many top name entertainers. There is a game room for kids. Other
than that -- like most casinos -- it is an adult playground.
New members sign up for their casino card on the 2nd floor. A $10 slot
credit is given to each new member for play that day. We found the machines
to be pretty good and walked away with a few extra bucks in our pocket.
A seafood buffet is offered on Friday and Saturday nights. It's a buffet to
die for if you love food of any kind. The cost is $18.95 and it's nothing
short of fabulous.
Just a note - Many folks indicate in their reports that a specific location
is noisy due to freeway noise, trains, etc. This one is noisy due to
employees. Changing shifts is very noticeable. Employees exit the casino
at the edge of the RV hookups. They are extremely loud. It is a very noisy
area with loud vehicles in and out picking them up and the yelling from one
end to the other. My suggestion would be to grab one of lower numbered
hookups --- if you need hookups (#2-5) or to stay in the RV area without the
hookups. Gorgeous sunrise over the water from any area.
report from Rick & Lucky Lucy, April 23, 2008
Isle of Capri Casino, Lake Charles, is located at the west
end of the I-10 bridge. They have eight spaces for RV hook-ups, electric
only, for
$10 a night. The spaces are small and would be tight for a big rig,
especially with slides. We took one as we wanted power for our TV to watch
the forecast about the oncoming storm front.
Registration was at the hotel desk where they also gave us
a couple keys to the fitness room that have showers and bathrooms. Very
nice, included a sauna, and they furnish the towels, soap, shampoo, lotion,
etc. -- all in all not a bad deal for ten bucks. Free newspaper in the hotel
lobby a few feet down the hallway from the fitness room. There is a pretty
decent place to dry camp nearby and a few motorhomes were parked there.
We took in the lunch buffet. It was pretty bad, definitely
not worth the price. We rate it one star out of five in our ongoing reviews
of casino buffets.

- Casino Camper Report, February 14, 2009
After all our travels across Louisiana on I-10 we finally stopped at the
Isle of Capri. All of the Isle properties that have the space are RV
friendly. This one provides a large paved lot for RVers and also 8
spots with electric hookup for $10 each. If you're towing you'll need
to unhook for those, and although they're advertised at 40' you'll be
hanging out with anything longer than a 35 .
When you arrive you'll see several signs for the truck parking area, that's
not where RV's go. Drive beyond those signs, and you'll see a sign on
your left that says RV's Only. It's a paved parking lot between the
bridge and the casino, and right next to the automobile parking.
Caution - this lot is used as a "short cut" into the back of the other
parking lot, so cars will be driving through at all hours, some of them in a
big hurry!
The signature steak house restaurant for the Isles is
Farraddays' and that's where we had dinner. This location had a
$25 all inclusive menu. I had the T-bone steak, and Chris had the Pork
Porterhouse. The meal came with a very nice large house salad, bread,
2 sides, desert, and coffee/tea/soft drink all for $25 each. We
enjoyed dinner very much. Yes, we actually PAID for a meal at a
casino! :-) We didn't have enough comps.
This location has a lot to recommend it, but one negative. The
parking lot is fine, easy to get in and out, the view of Lake Charles is
beautiful (see photo) the casino is nice, good dining, etc. The only
negative is the noise. The bridge is noisy with auto and truck
traffic, and there's a train track and bridge too which is even noisier.
I woke up several times during the night. But hey, it was free.
